The third phase of the project involves replacing the road-way deck and barriers from the Randall's Island toll plaza to the Manhattan approach and includes the Harlem River lift span and connecting ramps in Manhattan. The replace-ment systems were pre-formed in panels of approximately 10ft 4in width (the width of one road lane), so that replace-ment minimized traffic impact. The work sequence of each panel consisted of a saw cutting existing deck; the lifting and removal of the existing deck; the cleaning and prepa-ration of existing supports; and the placement, tying down and securing of the new panel. In total, over 1.6 million square feet of deck will be replaced under this project. Scope of work included general layout and erec-tion drawings, detailed fabrication shop drawings, bolt detailing and takeoffs with required referencing almost 1,000 as-built drawings
